SPECIAL NEEDS

We welcome students with limited special needs, but HEC is not a school. Our vendors are not credentialed teachers and are not trained nor do we offer special needs classes, have the tools to provide services or accommodations for students with special needs. Our vendors will try their best to help with any reasonable needs that a child may need not outside of what they are able to do in a 55 minute once a week class that will not inhibit them from teaching the rest of the class or putting other students needs on the side or with any safety at risk.

The school that your child is enrolled with might be able to provide accommodations. If your child is at risk of eloping or has concerning behavior that can put themselves, the vendor or other students at risk of safety or in danger, it may not be a good fit. You may need to speak to your child's school to provide accommodations. HEC does not have a public school classroom environment for accommodating observations and each vendor is not obligated to accommodate the space for doing so as the classrooms have limited capacities.

If you have a special needs child with a school provided aide, through their IEP, these are the steps to move forward with using such aides:

  1. Contact the vendor to talk about your child's needs and to make sure the class is a good fit for your child.

  2. If it is a good fit and agreed upon by both parties, email the vendor cc'ing the vendor, HEC and your child's school's Special Ed department, provided giving permission to have a school provided aide in class with your child with the name of the aid and proof of doing background checks.

  3. The company needs to respond cc'ing the vendor, the parent and HEC, providing the aide's proper credentials, the name of the aide that will be in class with your child, also providing a guarantee of background check.

  4. Upon arrival to class, the aid needs to have proper credentials with their ID showing their name & company.

  5. In class, the aide should be working with that student only and not be interrupting the teaching of the instructor or working with any other students in the class.

  6. If the student has any behaviors like screaming, yelling or aggressive behavior, the aid needs to take the child out of the class.

  7. The aide cannot leave the student in the class by themselves unless the vendor is in agreement.

  8. The aide cannot be on their phone in class.
