Melissa Allen
Melissa Allen was inspired to be an archaeologist when she was 8 years old after watching movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Mummy, and Tomb Raider. She grew up to become an archaeologist in San Diego and started her business 'Archofacts' so she could teach children about a fun and adventurous career. She teaches classes in archaeology, history, social studies, and anthropology by using real life archaeological methods and hands on activities. Melissa balances her professional life with homeschooling her four children, cherishing the opportunity to create lasting memories with her family.
Coach Allen brings passion, purpose, and a whole lot of miles to everything she does, both in the classroom and on the course. A former high school cross country standout, Coach Allen discovered a love for running early on and never looked back. She is hoping to bring the whole HEC community together through this fun sport and provide students with a memorable Cross Country team experience!

Miss Macie is a passionate artist who relocated to San Diego four years ago from Sacramento, where her love for art first began. Since joining Archofacts Archaeology for Kids, she has enjoyed blending creativity with history, helping students bring the past to life through hands-on artistic expression. Miss Macie is dedicated to combining education and art in a way that inspires curiosity and encourages every student to explore their own creativity. Whether she’s leading an art activity or assisting in the classroom, she brings enthusiasm, imagination, and a supportive spirit to every lesson. Outside of teaching, Miss Macie enjoys painting, spending time in nature, solving sudoku puzzles, cuddling with cats, and snacking on yummy food.

Mikala Aragon
Mikala Aragon has been part of Home School Enrichment Centers for 5 years and has fallen in love with how excited and passionate each teacher, parent and student is about learning. She has served as a teacher for over 9 years and across all grade levels. Mikala graduated from the University of Arizona Global Campus with a degree in History, however she is an expert in elementary math and middle and high school sciences. She has earned many academic awards and received recognition for outstanding work in the Lakeside Union School District. She is passionate about learning through exploration. Her mission is to inspire her students to enjoy the process of learning and develop their skills as critical thinkers. Mikala is a advocate for students of all learning types and creates a classroom environment where both success and failure are celebrated as exciting parts of growth and learning. Mikala has had many years of working with students who are neurodivergent and does her best to make exceptional students feel at home within the classroom. Beyond the classroom, Miss Aragon is an avid Softball player, traveler, and explorer of sea life. She spends much of her free time exploring and trying new things.

Elizabeth Blackmore
Elizabeth Blackmore is an experienced educator who loves helping children develop a lifelong love of learning. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, with an emphasis on children with exceptional needs, from Idaho State University, and has additional training in literacy and teaching English as a second language.
As a homeschool educator for 17 years and a mother of six, Elizabeth has taught a wide range of subjects in many settings, including homeschool co-ops, preschool, K–3 classrooms, and science programs at the Idaho State University Natural History Museum. Now in her seventh year at HEC, she enjoys creating hands-on, play-based learning experiences where children can explore, grow, and build confidence. Hannah Orahood
Hannah is originally from the Bay Area. She competed competetively in All Star cheerleading from 5 to 18 years old. Hannah now proudly represents SDSU as a collegiate cheerleader. Being in cheer has taught her how to navigate working with all different types of people of all ages. She has a passion for teaching and fostering teamwork. Hannah’s major is Early Education, and she is so looking forward to working with children in a classroom someday!
Brady Boyd is the owner of Kidokinetics San Diego. With a background as a former college athlete at PLNU and as a father of two girls (4 and 7 year olds), he understands the importance of physical activity and fitness and teaching these concepts to kids. He enjoys passing on his love for sports and physical activity to kids and helping them to PLAY CONFIDENTLY! Their certified coaches bring their own unique skills and experience, but they are all united by a love for inspiring kids to be active and confident. They believe in the power of play to not only improve physical fitness but to also help children develop critical life skills like teamwork, leadership, and resilience. Rebecca Garcia
Rebecca has been passionate about softball since elementary school, and her love for the sport has
only grown over the years. As a collegiate athlete at SDSU, she earned MVP honors while maintaining a spot on the Dean's List. Her dedication to sports inspired her to become one of Kidokinetic's top coaches, where she continues to share her expertise and enthusiasm with others. Mackenzie Burrows
Makenzie Burrows has lived in San Diego her whole life, and has been in Lakeside with her husband and son for the last 3 years. She graduated with a bachelors degree from SDSU in 2021 in Business. Since high school, however, she has been doing floral design and started her own business officially during college to pursue weddings and events. In the midst of weekend jobs, she tutored at her old high school as well as made spelling and vocabulary games for coworkers kids. Makenzie has always enjoyed teaching kids, working in junior high youth group at church, and encouraging young ones to learn and grow. Amy Ramirez is an experienced early childhood educator who loves helping young learners grow and thrive. She earned her Early Childhood Education Certificate from Grossmont College in 2018 and has spent the past eight years teaching preschool. She has also coached softball and baseball for six years, combining her love of sports with mentoring kids. Outside the classroom,

Toni Brooks, a passionate educator with over 20 years of experience, holds a magna cum laude degree in education from California State University, Northridge, with a teaching credential in Language & Diversity and a minor in Cultural Linguistics. She has taught K-12 students in public, private, charter, and homeschool settings, specializing in curriculum design, reading/math intervention, social-emotional learning, and Kagan cooperative strategies. Joy is a local San Diego actor/singer/dancer/educator. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine. Locally, she has performed on stages at The La Jolla Playhouse, the Old Globe, The Moonlight Amphitheater, LEGOLAND CA, SeaWorld and both San Diego Zoo parks. When not performing Joy loves teaching the next generation of artists. She has found fulfillment in leading children to their inner confidence and inspiring a deep love for the performing arts. Trent
Dillon Taitano, the founder of The Collective Movement, has been doing parkour for 15 years. Throughout his parkour career he has coached kids-adults, worked stunt jobs (movies-tv), and competed in many competitions, even winning a few. Parkour for him isn’t a career or a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. He will be practicing it for as long as he physically can! Longevity is his ultimate goal, along with continuing his efforts in working with the parkour community.
The Collective Movements was founded on the base of providing a real world education of parkour. TCM Strives to provide excellent coaching who are capable not only as a coach, but as an athlete to demonstrate and provide feedback not just from a theoretical stand point, but from practical application.

Angela Damery has experience teaching children for over 28 years. She has worked extensively with a diverse student population and a wide range of learning styles. As a San Diego native, she received her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University while later completing her masters degree with an emphasis in teaching reading. Angela enjoys watching her students master academic skills through meaningful interactions. Getting students engaged in their learning and providing hands-on experiences is what she loves to do! DeAnna Munoz has been teaching sewing and art classes since 2021 and has taught at HEC since 2022. She has life long background of sewing which started as young as 7 years old and continues to this day. She has her degree in Fashion Design from FIDM in LA, and has worked for multiple apparel companies and wore many hats, overseeing designing, sourcing, patterning, and specialzing in mass production. She is a wife and mother of three children who attend HEC as well. Her classroom is a fun, creative space where kids can find community through art and sewing.

Cassia Knighton is a dedicated educator who is passionate about supporting students with a variety of learning styles. With a background in commercial interior design, she chose to focus on raising her two children and later discovered a love for working in education. She began as a noon duty substitute with Lakeside Union School District before becoming a Special Education Instructional Assistant.
Over the past four years, Cassia has gained valuable experience working closely with students and adapting instruction to meet their individual needs. Now in her second year teaching at HEC, she enjoys building connections with students and creating a supportive, engaging learning environment. Elizabeth Blackmore is an experienced educator who loves helping children develop a lifelong love of learning. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, with an emphasis on children with exceptional needs, from Idaho State University, and has additional training in literacy and teaching English as a second language.
As a homeschool educator for 17 years and a mother of six, Elizabeth has taught a wide range of subjects in many settings, including homeschool co-ops, preschool, K–3 classrooms, and science programs at the Idaho State University Natural History Museum. Now in her seventh year at HEC, she enjoys creating hands-on, play-based learning experiences where children can explore, grow, and build confidence. Karin Leonard is a homeschooling mom and a classically trained pianist. For over 30 years, she has taught beginner to advanced level music to people from ages 5 to 95. At age 14, she sang at Carnegie Hall. At age 16, she was hired as a church pianist, began assembling praise bands, conducting choirs and directing musicals. After graduating, she worked for the college tutoring department teaching piano, music theory, math and English and performed as a featured soloist in the college Jazz Ensemble. Mary Longbottom is a passionate and experienced educator with 16 years of teaching homeschool families. She graduated from San Diego State University in 2009 with a Liberal Arts degree specializing in Science.

Sifu Mario Mayorga, owner of 5 Elements Martial Arts & Wellness Center, began his martial arts journey in 1993, training in Taekwondo, Northern Shaolin, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Aikido, Tai Chi, Escrima, and Chi Gong. He earned his black belt in Kung Fu in 1999 and specializes in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi, with extensive experience teaching children across San Diego County.
In 2005, Mario earned an Associate of Science degree from Grossmont College and began studies at San Diego State University. Inspired by healers, he studied at the International Professional School of Bodywork, becoming a certified Massage Therapist in 2010, specializing in Thai Medical Massage and Sensory Re-patterning. That year, he co-founded 5 Elements with Keith Jacobson, blending martial arts, Tai Chi, Chi Gong, Yoga, and massage therapy. In 2012, he became a certified Holistic Health Practitioner and completed teacher training at IPSB in 2014.

Shad Oakes is a father of 7!. His wife Hanna homeschools their four youngest children. Shad worked in youth ministry for 17 years, 9 of which he was a full time Youth Pastor. He played volleyball for 6 years and coached for another 6. Chad has several years of experience tutoring and working in after-school programs. He also taught as a 7th-grade biology teacher in Tampa, Florida. He also spent two years studying physical therapy in Provo, Utah.

LionHeart Academy is East County’s premier fencing club, offering high-quality instruction for both youth and adults. We welcome students of all experience levels, from those exploring fencing recreationally to athletes pursuing competitive training.
Our program has a strong track record of success, with fencers advancing to compete at the NCAA Division I level, including at UC San Diego and the United States Air Force Academy. Above all, LionHeart Academy fosters a positive and engaging environment where students build confidence, develop athletic skill, and enjoy the lifelong benefits of the sport.
Alex Soderberg brings elite competitive experience and technical expertise that helps students grow both skill and confidence. A former NCAA Division I fencer at UCSD, Alex knows firsthand the discipline and focus required of the sport of Olympic fencing. He actively continues to compete and is currently an A-rated épée fencer, giving students real-time insight into modern fencing strategy. Passionate about building resilient and confident fencers, Alex challenges students to grow while providing mentorship, guidance, and a structured environment that fosters long-term success on and off the strip.

Jessica Velazquez, a San Diego State University graduate with a Multimedia degree, is a dedicated educator with extensive experience in art education. As Program Director at Art with Larisse for over a decade, she specializes in pastels, watercolors, and oil painting, fostering creativity in children. Passionate about inspiring young minds, Jessica encourages students to explore and develop their unique artistic voices.
Mary Longbottom is the founder of Desert Coast Learning LLC. She is a San Diego State University graduate with a Liberal Arts degree in Science,and has 15 years of experience teaching homeschool families. Starting at Art with Larisse, she taught drawing, pastels, watercolor, and oil painting, later joining Dehesa (now Element) to teach Art, Spanish, Science, Math, and History. Mary also provides private tutoring across various school settings. Passionate about integrating art into education, she makes learning engaging and inspires young learners with creative, hands-on approaches.
