Homeschooling independently, under a

Private School Affidavit (PSA)

Filing a PSA is easy, quick & free. You do not get funding like you do with charter schools. With a PSA, you get to choose your own curriculum including using Christian/Religious curriculum and you are not accountable to any governmental entities, because you are the teacher. You are essentially creating your own school in your own home & an name your school whatever you want. There are no restrictions except to file every year & keep attendance (which you can do easily in your own records). There is no turning in work...it is advised to keep your work if you are ever questioned.

You can file in October every year for that school year. Kindergarten is not required in the state of CA so you start filing for first grade. And yes, you can homeschool through High School with a PSA.

A helpful resource when filing a PSA is to join the Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). They will help you legally or just offer great legal advise if ever needed. It could be well worth your $168 per year to join.
