Miss Veronica is a dedicated educator and a proud native of California. She has been working with Archofacts Archaeology for Kids for the past 4 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from San Diego State University and has a deep passion for teaching across various subjects, with a particular enthusiasm for science and history. Throughout her career, Veronica has gained extensive experience as a classroom aide, science tutor for high school students, and working with elementary school children. Veronica's husband, a retired Navy veteran, and their two children are central to her life. Sifu Mario Mayorga, owner of 5 Elements Martial Arts & Wellness Center, began his martial arts journey in 1993, training in Taekwondo, Northern Shaolin, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Aikido, Tai Chi, Escrima, and Chi Gong. He earned his black belt in Kung Fu in 1999 and specializes in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi, with extensive experience teaching children across San Diego County.

In 2005, Mario earned an Associate of Science degree from Grossmont College and began studies at San Diego State University. Inspired by healers, he studied at the International Professional School of Bodywork, becoming a certified Massage Therapist in 2010, specializing in Thai Medical Massage and Sensory Re-patterning. That year, he co-founded 5 Elements with Keith Jacobson, blending martial arts, Tai Chi, Chi Gong, Yoga, and massage therapy. In 2012, he became a certified Holistic Health Practitioner and completed teacher training at IPSB in 2014.

Mario continues to train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Filipino Martial Arts, and ICE Urban Combat Martial Arts. Outside the studio, he enjoys soccer, basketball, yoga, gymnastics, ballroom dancing, hiking, and cycling, enriching his holistic approach to wellness.

Makenzie Burrows has lived in San Diego her whole life, and has been in Lakeside with her husband and son for the last 3 years. She graduated with a bachelors degree from SDSU in 2021 in Business. Since high school, however, she has been doing floral design and started her own business officially during college to pursue weddings and events. DillonTaitano, the founder of The Collective Movement, has been doing parkour for 15 years. Throughout his parkour career he has coached kids-adults, worked stunt jobs (movies-tv), and competed in many competitions, even winning a few. Parkour for him isn’t a career or a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. He will be practicing it for as long as he physically can! Karin Leonard is a classically trained pianist who homeschooled her daughter from kindergarten through graduating summa cum laude at the age of 16. For over 30 years, she has taught beginner to advanced level music to people from ages 5 to 95. Before graduating high school, she became a certified conflict manager, sang at Carnegie Hall, worked as a church pianist, assembled praise bands, conducted choirs, and directed musicals. After graduating, she worked for the college tutoring department teaching piano, music theory, math and English and performed as a featured soloist in the college Jazz Ensemble. Ebelin is a devoted mom of four boys who began her homeschooling journey four years ago. Darryn Campbell has been playing guitar for 14 years, earning a Bachelor’s in Guitar Performance and a Master’s in Performance Psychology. He believes in enhancing art and life through mental skills training, focusing on upbeat and positive practice sessions. Raised by music-loving parents from the grunge era, Darryn grew up with constant music, leading him to excel in guitar. He earned a college scholarship and served as a guitarist and crew chief for California Baptist University, touring the U.S. and performing at high schools and churches. Beyond music, Darryn is a gamer, exercise and nutrition trainer, MMA enthusiast, and die-hard Raiders fan.​

"Coach Ron" founded Pacific Hills Chess Academy in 2012. He was President of the San Diego Chess Club for 16 years and President of the Southern California Chess Federation for 3 years. He helped organize two US Chess Championships held in San Diego in 2004 and 2006. He has been teaching thousands of students over the last 30+ years, including his time with Mountain Lake Chess Camp run by International Master Larry Evans.

Mr Acierto has been teaching and coaching chess under the guidance of national chess champion Larry Evans for many years. Mr. Acierto loves teaching kids and seeing their excitement when they see & learn a new move!

A native speaker, Ms Adriana received all her elementary education in her home country of Costa Rica. Conversation, fluency, spelling and grammar were solidified during those early years of her life. Upon moving to California, learning English as a second language became a priority, but at home and with friends Spanish continued to remain the norm. Professionally, Ms Adriana has spent the last 14 years as a Spanish Linguist. She started teaching elementary school children back in 2003 and currently teaches all ages and grade levels.

Geek Cred, is run and was founded by husband and wife team, Andrea and Roman Covarubias. They have been a part of HEC for 4 years now. For the second year, they are joined again by Saba Bajwa (Mrs. B), a bona fide scientist and HEC parent. Saba holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science and has experience in both homeopathy and pharmacy. She has actively contributed to various youth programs within her community. She has been homeschooling her children since 2017 and now teaches Geek Cred curriculum at HEC's Bonita location.
